4G Technology for Fixed or Mobile rural Broadband Access

There is mandate or obligation for Telecom Service Providers to extend the coverage of 4G / 5G network to rural and remote areas. With constant drop in ARPU TSPs are challenged in terms of breaking even in such deployments and they are constant look out for products that can reduce the cost of ownership and drastically optimize the operational costs. Given the low cost 4G handset ecosystem across the globe, TSP network extending coverage to rural and remote area can dramatically bridge the digital divide.

Lekha wireless offers Vyapi eNodeB which is an integrated radio provides coverage over larger area. The design is SDR based and TSPs can deploy these radios in any TDD of FDD LTE bands. There is a portfolio of high power radios covering radio powers of 10W to 80W per antenna port. Extremely efficient radio amplifier design ensures large Power Savings during the operation of the network. System design allows long hours of operation with battery backup which is important for rural area. Vyapi eNodeB implements several patented techniques that optimizes the power in idle times. On an average there is a power saving of about 50% power saving compared to any other typical eNodeB with comparable specifications.

TSPs can provide IP based voice, video and data services over the 4G network. Vyapi eNodeB allows NB IOT based cellular IoT networks which can boost the automation in agricultural and other rural industries. The products are scalable to operate in 2T2R or 4T4R antenna configuration. The SDR platform is scalable to support higher user density and throughput requirements. The eNodeB is already integrated and tested with multiple EPC vendors over S1 interface. The TSPs can plan to use the existing infrastructure for EPC and NMS while integrating Lekha’s Vyapi eNodeB or plan for a complete green field deployment with the help of Lekha’s partner eco system. A typical deployment scenario is depicted in the figure.
